Microsoft Silicon, Cloud Hardware, and Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) is the team behind Microsoft’s expanding Cloud Infrastructure and responsible for powering Microsoft’s “Intelligent Cloud” mission. SCHIE delivers the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's over 200 online businesses including Bing, MSN, Office 365, Xbox Live, Teams, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform globally with our server and data center infrastructure, security and compliance, operations, globalization, and manageability solutions. As Microsoft's cloud business continues to grow the ability to deploy new offerings and hardware infrastructure on time, in high volume with high quality and lowest cost is of paramount importance. To achieve this goal, the Hardware, Infrastructure Management, and Fundamentals Engineering (HIFE) team is instrumental in defining and delivering operational measures of success for hardware manufacturing, improving the planning process, quality, delivery, scale, and sustainability related to Microsoft cloud hardware. We are looking for results-driven, and intellectually curious development Hardware Program Managers with dedicated passions for customer focused solutions, insight and industry knowledge to envision and implement future technical solutions that will manage and optimize the Cloud infrastructure.

The development hardware program manager will play a pivotal role in E2E product development of infrastructure hardware and multi-source programs at scale that have a significant impact the business and Azure.  The candidates will collaborate with both internal Microsoft teams and external partners (OEMs/ODMs, Systems, and others to driver delivery of high-quality products to our production fleet that enable our business success at scale.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent relevant discipline, with practical experience in Hardware design, sustaining engineering, reliability testing, platform system engineering and/or technical analysis. 

  • 10+ years of experience managing E2E hardware product development, preferably in cloud infrastructure HW or server development.

  • Proven program management experience from NPI to post-product launch.

  • Proven leadership, management, facilitation, and problem-solving skills including L1/L2 Triage Capability

  • Proven interpersonal and communication skills, and experience working effectively with all organizational levels

  • Proven experience prioritizing and executing tasks in a high-pressure, fast-faced environment. 

  • Well versed in Microsoft Office tools (Microsoft Project, PowerPoint, Word, Excel etc.) and Power BI.   

Preferred Qualifications (Desired):

  • Strategic thinker

  • Product management experience is a bonus.

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) and/or Program Management Professional (PgMP) certified Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role.

  • Experience with Azure Devs Ops and PDM Engineering tool is a bonus.

  • Experience in managing Cloud hardware development (server, Data Center Security Module, FPGA accelerator cards, High Power PSU’s, PMDU, PDU etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Drive technical hardware programs from requirements through launch, including managing complex project schedules, removing roadblocks, and keeping processes running smoothly. 

  • Partner closely with cross-functional teams (both external and internal) to define, prioritize, and implement features, processes, and workflows to drive multi-sourcing and infrastructure HW programs.

  • Align key stakeholders and manage projects through milestones to completion on schedule and in budget, with uncompromising quality.

  • Communicate and present program plans and status with management.

  • Monitor and measure engineering impact and performance results by tracking key performance indicators.

  • Personally navigate and skillfully lead others through complex, interrelated technical challenges and business issues to deliver impactful results.  This includes timely reporting of meaningful status and supporting detail to senior leadership and other internal stakeholders.

  • Write product specifications, manage product BOMs/releases and engineering builds.

  • Manage design verification testing and drive bugs for closure.
