Overview

Microsoft Cloud Hardware Infrastructure Engineering (CHIE) is the team behind Microsoft’s expanding Cloud Infrastructure and responsible for powering Microsoft’s “Intelligent Cloud” mission. CHIE delivers the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's over 200 online businesses including Bing, MSN, Office 365, Xbox Live, Skype, OneDrive and the Microsoft Azure platform globally with our server and data center infrastructure, security and compliance, operations, globalization, and manageability solutions.

As Microsoft's cloud business continues to grow the ability to deploy new offerings and HW infrastructure on time, in high volume with high quality and lowest cost is of paramount importance. To achieve this goal, the Cloud AI & Advanced Systems Engineering (CAASE) team is instrumental in defining and delivering operational measures of success for hardware manufacturing, improving the planning process, quality, delivery, scale and sustainability related to Microsoft cloud hardware. We are looking for seasoned engineers with a strong passion for customer focused solutions, insight and industry knowledge to envision and implement future technical solutions that will manage and optimize the Cloud infrastructure.

We are looking for a Senior Hardware Engineer to join the team.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the test plans and qualification coverage for memory and storage, including usage models

  • Debug and drive to resolution issues related to the qualification of Microsoft’s Cloud Servers

  • Work with suppliers and internal teams on resolving issues

  • Interact with multiple teams inside and outside of Microsoft

  • Review system SKU, SW stack OS, BIOS, BMC, RM,…for each TRR (Test Run Request)

  • Review commodity storage and memory device test plan for qualification for each SKU system per TRR

  • Create a test list recommendation per TRR

  • Following up qualification run status, repro issues, debug issues and remove roadblock

  • Disposition all bugs in each TRR

  • Review results and report from execution engineering team

  • Preparation and send out signoff report, update ADO for each TRR signoff

  • Supporting issues in Pre-Qual, meeting or working with suppliers

  • Understand test environment and tests flow, ad-hoc or modify scripts are often needed to a workaround for test script or automation environment issue

  • Low level programing HW & SW interface is a plus

  • Other related qualification task upon request

  • Qualifications

    Basic Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in EE, or Computer Engineering, or Master’s degree preferred, or experience working on computer, storage, & memory system

    • 5+ years of experience in hardware validation (planning, documentation, development, execution, and debug)

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Knowledge of X86 server system, system memory, and storage architectures

    • Familiar with networking, power, rack management and remote access environments

    • Experience integrating and validating hardware components and/or system levels

    • Familiar with and able to develop scripts (PowerShell, Python, Perl) and routines to enable debug and accelerate data collection and data reduction via automation

    • Self-motivated individual, must be able to work collaboratively in team environment and across internal divisions and industry (OEM, ODM), demonstrate technical leadership in driving successful product development

    Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
