Job Description

Overview

Our Cloud Operations + Innovation (CO+I) organization seeks an experienced real estate professional to lead the team that is responsible for land development that enables construction of new cloud infrastructure across the Asia Pacific (APAC) region. This is a unique opportunity to personally influence the strategic growth of new data centers powering the Microsoft Cloud.

The ideal candidate will have exceptional industry knowledge and strong experience delivering a complex portfolio of projects, preferably in the mission critical domain. The role requires a strong executive presence to lead complex and time sensitive initiatives, including the development of critical external relationships to promote and enhance Microsoft’s reputation. Success in the role requires a high degree of business delivery expertise, including matters such as site selection, risk analysis, land use and real estate transactions, zoning and planning, environmental permitting, and agile project management, with keen focuses on community engagement and local initiatives. We are looking for a self-starter who is skilled at collaborating with a variety of stakeholders and is passionate about problem-solving.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications

  • Bachelors’ degree (or equivalent) in technology, engineering, architecture, business or other technical background (MBA, JD or other graduate degree preferred);

  • 15+ years of relevant experience in global real estate, entitlements, engineering and/or construction leadership, including managing a global or continental real estate portfolio, strategy, planning, and development of large-scale capital projects;

  • 5+ years proven track record of leading an organization. Demonstrated success in generating energy, creating clarity, and delivering results inclusively to your diverse team and your broader organization;

  • Knowledge of global real estate, permitting, and construction standards, policies, metrics & best practices;

  • Experience in delivering real estate, permitting, and construction for the cloud (or mission critical) infrastructure industry and elements like easements, asset management, community engagement, power and water utilities and network;

  • Highly adaptable, strong collaborator and influencer as well as solution-focused activator, with strong focus on delivery to business goals;

  • Highly effective at c-level communications, with ability to drive change; create processes to improve our delivery efficiencies; and

  • Experience in supplier selection and external vendor management

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience supporting large ($100M+) development projects in and outside of APAC;

  • Passion and experience delivering innovative strategies in a matrixed organization;

  • Real estate transactional experience including acquisitions and leasing;

  • Keen business sense, flexible and analytical thinker able to identify issues quickly and accurately in a complex environment and to develop practical solutions by exercising judgment in ambiguous situations;

  • Adept at communicating simply and strong attention to detail and organization;

  • Works efficiently, meets demanding deadlines in a fast-paced environment, prioritizes workflow with minimal supervision, and adjusts to evolving business imperatives;

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate well with team members on projects that cut across organizational and geographical boundaries; and

  • Experience and comfort working with data, including the measurement of performance and effectiveness that inform priorities and deliver insights to stakeholders.

Responsibilities

This person will have a variety of key responsibilities:

  • Develop and grow a highly talented team to drive high quality, fast paced delivery, and create a model, coach and care approach;

  • Create a diverse high performance team across the region, always creating a safe environment, encouraging openness and honesty, and creating a fun atmosphere;

  • Develop Microsoft’s regional strategy for land development and securing key government approvals, entitlements, and permits;

  • Track, drive, and influence mid to long-term growth planning initiatives in partnership with acquisitions and infrastructure teams, finance, and other key stakeholders;

  • Meet global targets for investment in land and development projects, always accelerating and optimizing delivery;

  • Responsible for driving acquisition decisions that create long term value for Microsoft;

  • Drive complex, multi-dimensional initiatives from inception through completion;

  • Excel in contract negotiation, process design, project management, change management and vendor partnerships;

  • Develop strong relationships and collaborative processes with internal stakeholders in datacenter design, construction, network and energy acquisition, risk management, E2E program management, legal and finance;

  • Cultivate lasting and productive relationships with external partners to accelerate delivery of site development;

  • Demonstrate an ability to excel in an innovative, startup-like, fast-paced environment, with rapid exploration and ability to execute; and  

  • Global travel as necessary.
