Job Description

​Overview

We are looking for a passionate, high-energy individual to help build the infrastructure that powers Microsoft’s online services. We work hard, play hard, and make history. We also care about people, growth, excellence, and results.

The Principal Program Manager will be based in China and will be responsible for supporting hands-on key elements of Azure’s Infrastructure, it’s Strategy and the practical implementation/development in China and across the world.

In this role, you will work closely with senior-level, deep-expertise globally situated peers across multiple lines of business in Geo-Expansion, Data Center, Operations, and Buildout disciplines to plan, coordinate, and execute complex infrastructure and cloud services-based projects. You will collaborate across multiple groups within and beyond the Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) team, seeking to align priorities with partner engineering organizations.

The successful candidate will have a bias for action, curiosity for the ‘whys’, a proven ability to maintain an outcome-based viewpoint, and an ability to fail fast and learn. The successful candidate will also exhibit positive traits indicative of collaboration, organization, an eye for detail, and business-acumen to ensure the team succeeds and achieves their goals.

Qualifications

  • MS Degree in Electrical/Mechanical/Industrial Engineering or commensurate relevant industry experience

  • Experience working internationally with clients and suppliers in multiple countries

  • In depth understanding of the Data Center industry and market in China

  • 5 yr. experience in Design / Construction/ Operations of Data Centers

  • In depth understanding of the cost structure (Capex and Opex) of Data Centers

  • In depth understanding of the technical systems (M&E specialty) of Data Centers

  • Ability to partner and cooperate with diverse teams and individuals

  • High degree of autonomy and energy

  • Ability to generate articulate, professional level pieces of written work as input for critical decision making and/or dependent strategy/design/planning

  • Languages: English (native/bilingual/very high proficiency) and Mandarin Chinese, at professional working level

These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Describe the ideal candidate (optional)

  • Understanding of and experience in the data center industry in China.

  • Transaction, project, or program management experience.

  • Strong knowledge of local regulations and requirements for data center build and operations.

  • Strong engineering acumen.

  • Ability to understand & communicate and make data driven recommendations at all levels.

Responsibilities

  • Provide regional presence in support of CO+I Infrastructure Planning & Acquisition initiatives, such as Region Expansion and Strategic Client Deals, with focus on data center assets and infrastructure.

  • Contribute to / Generate data center region designs for new regions and proactively monitor and manage existing regions for risk, growth and other factors. Permanently keep abreast of regional inventory in support of Azure region creation/expansion.

  • Act as liaison/point of contact with internal (other departments/functions within Microsoft) and external stakeholders, for region planning, design, roll-out and management as needed.

  • Continually drive innovation, improvement and growth for Microsoft and our clients.
