Overview

Microsoft Silicon Cloud Hardware Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) is the team behind Microsoft’s expanding Cloud Infrastructure and responsible for powering Microsoft’s “Intelligent Cloud” mission. CHIE delivers the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's over 200 online businesses including Bing, MSN, Office 365, Xbox Live, Skype, OneDrive and the Microsoft Azure platform globallywith our server and data center infrastructure, security and compliance, operations, globalization, and manageability solutions. Responsibilities

Microsoft is seeking a highly qualified candidate to join the team as a Lab Hardware engineer. As a Lab Hardware engineer within the Azure Silicon Cloud Hardware Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE), you will support innovative projects and apply your expertise in a fast paced & technically driven environment with a diverse set of teams to ensure that the lab operations is optimized and tuned to perform in a complex environment while continuing to scale space, capacity and capability. The responsibility includes but not limited to:

  • Providing specifications for the end to end physical implementation of various project requirements including detailed hardware configurations, racks, network configurations, infrastructure, racking systems, power distribution & floor load management.

  • Provide post project implementation support that includes equipment verification and configuration testing in support of defined project requirements.

  • Provide required troubleshooting, maintenance and management of server racks, network connectivity, and infrastructure while coordinating user requirements to align with automation capabilities and recommended technical solutions.

  • Maintain a thorough understanding of all documented processes and procedures.

  • Drive continuous improvement efforts to meet and support needs inclusive of system operational goals, capacity optimization, and emerging capability needs.

  • Qualifications

    Required Qualifications:  

    • BS/MS degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent experience.

    • At least 3 years of experience in Technical operations related to Server System architecture that includes server functionality, network requirements, mechanical and electrical specification application, engineering lab or datacenter environments and/or data center operations.

    • Cisco networking experience at CCNA or CCNP level

    • A working knowledge of virtual machine technology. (VMware, Hyper-V, XEN or KVM)

    • Familiarity with core routing, switching functions, structure cabling, Server hardware and components.

    • Experience with Linux command line operations, scripting languages such as C/C++, installs, configures, and support of Operating Systems that includes both Linux and Windows. 

    Preferred Qualifications:  

    In addition the ideal candidate should also have following experiences and exhibit the behavioral traits:

    • Background with system level qualification, validation, I/O interconnect, PCIE high speed data switches.

    • Certifications: CCNA, CCNP, CompTIA (Server+, Network+), Basic Structure Cabling (BSC) DCFA, MCP.

    • Good written and verbal communication & organization skills.

    • Ability to work well independently and on a team. A collaborative spirit and a growth mindset.

    • Customer and results oriented with attention to quality and details.

    • Motivated to continuously learn and improve existing solutions.
