Job Description

Overview

The Environmental Permitting ProgramLead will be leading a team of Environmental Permitting Program Managers whomanage environmental due diligence,environmentalapprovals, and support compliance activities during siteidentification andacquisition, design, and construction for datacenter developmentacrossAsia Pacific (APAC. This role requires regular engagement with key Microsoft stakeholders, including legal, design, construction, and operations teams, regulatory agencies, and outside consultants and contractors. 

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental, Civil, or Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, or equivalent

  • 12+years of environmental management acrossAsia Pacific including:

  • environmental permitting and approvals including management of environmental impact assessments:

  • environmental due diligence and risk assessments for greenfield and brownfield sites, including environmental site assessments and remediation. 

  • construction complianceand risk managementfor all site environmental issues and permit approval conditions

  • Experience with mission critical facility or large-scale construction projects

  • Ability toe stablis hand maintain cross-functional and positive working relationships with internal and external teams. 

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail and high standards for quality of deliverables.

  • Complex stake holder engagement experience, including engagement with local government agencies.

Preferred: 

  • Community Engagement and Stakeholder engagement experience  

  • Mission critical design and/or construction experience

  • Experience in delivering projects in multiple jurisdictions

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Lead a team whoare responsible for environmental risk evaluations,permitting,approvals, and consent activities forexisting and new datacenter development acrossAsia Pacific.

  • Manage environmental due diligence and risk assessment during site acquisition, including Environmental Site Assessments, soil and groundwater investigations, regulatory and permitting evaluations, and ecological, and archaeological/cultural resource evaluations, acoustics, air qualityandsitesurveys.

  • Manage environmental consultants for thedelivery of environmental approvals and consents, due diligence assessments,risk evaluations, and environmental surveys, reports, and evaluations.

  • Identifyenvironmental permitting requirements and develop delivery strategies, including environmental mitigation, in coordination with design, construction,EHS, operations, and permittingteams to meet required timelines.

  • Support regulatory agency, stakeholder and community engagement activities and negotiations for new builds and existing facilities. 

  • Support development of environmental risk andpermitting mitigations to enable datacenter construction and operations within development timelines.

  • Manage environmental compliance planning and execution for construction activities and operational turnover.

  • Communicate environmental requirements and provide environmental expertiseto diverse internal stakeholders, including legal, land development, energy, design, construction, operations, community development,sustainability team sand upcoming new legislationand regulations.

  • The Environmental Program Lea dwill maintainand report project status regularly and contribute to the development and continued improvement of an Environmental Excellence program for datacenter delivery andoperations
