Amazon Web Services is looking for a highly motivated Technical Subsea Network Business Developer to help build and scale one of the world’s largest and most complex networks. As a Technical Subsea Network Business Developer, you will play an important role in planning and building subsea backbone capacity in close coordination with other team members. The candidate should be self-driven, have the ability to learn quickly and influence decision-making across organizations. In this position, you will work closely with various Amazon business units to gather, refine and drive program goals to develop submarine cable projects. You will have the opportunity to implement new processes and procedures driving continuous improvement while interacting with a broad range of stakeholders across Amazon.

Our Technical Business Developers responsible for sourcing and planning have ownership of our network acquisition and implementation strategy and the maintenance of relationships with strategic suppliers to expand and grow Amazon's AWS footprint worldwide. By applying a unique blend of business and technology experience, you will work closely with both internal and external stakeholders to find creative, cost effective, and often unusual solutions to meet Amazon's ongoing growth and expansion needs worldwide.

Key job responsibilities
In this position, the candidate will work closely with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders to develop submarine cable projects across the globe. The candidate will organize, track, and coordinate with vendors and internal and external teams to deliver new subsea backbone capacity for Amazon. They will work with capacity planners and engineers to ensure the most efficient and cost effective network topology is developed and delivered. The candidate will collaborate with a wide variety of internal teams including business development, finance, tax, legal, and deployment, to successful implement their plans.

A day in the life
Our projects are multi year in duration, requiring careful planning, disciplined execution and with a growing program, constant invention and simplification. We work with internal and external stakeholders and partners, driving projects to meet our goals and timelines. We ensure that the delivery of the projects meet our high standards and specifications. When faced with an issue or delay, we invent to solve for the roadblock alerting our customers along the way. Communications are crisp, timely and always advise a path forward. We learn from each other, ensuring global consistency.



About the team
The Subsea Backbone team is responsible for all aspects of submarine network deployment, operation, upgrades and management within AWS. We own the technology roadmap and standards for submarine cable, optical fiber, installation methods, procurement of the optical equipment, RSPC and associated operational models and security postures. We define the contractual framework for all required elements adding capacity that supports the AWS Backbone Network for our customers. The team works closely with the Regional Business Development teams to deliver submarine capacity to a global standard, enabling economic and scalable consistency for all our customers.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- Bachelor's degree
- 5+ years of developing, negotiating and executing business agreements experience
- Experience developing strategies that influence leadership decisions at the organizational level
- Experience managing programs across cross functional teams, building processes and coordinating release schedules
- 10-years subsea industry experience with extensive knowledge of fiber optic networks and submarine cables.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Ability to merge traditional project management with agile processes.
- Experience in automation, operational excellence, or continuous improvement techniques.
- Ability to prioritize well, communicate clearly and understand how to drive a high level of focus and excellence with a strong, talented, opinionated team.
