It's the New Year, where you probably feel optimistic and excited for the year ahead. It’s likely that at least one person will ask you what your resolutions are for the year. Whether you like to make them or not, research has found that people who make resolutions are 10 times more likely to attain their goals than people who don't explicitly make resolutions.
For some of us, it’s a fresh new start where we enter a new job while for others, they are aiming to do better this year in their career.
No matter what, all of us need to have some sort of career resolution to achieve more and be better. Think of it as a year-long plan! Without further ado, let’s dive in.
Developing new skills
One of the more achievable career goals you can have this year is to develop your skills. In order to improve, you need to pick up skills that are relevant to your job and your field so that you will be able to progress further. And it’s not hard either as you can sign up for online upskilling courses with just a few clicks.
Other than developing your skills, you can also network to put yourself out there. With most activities, moving online opportunities to network with people from all over the world has become a lot easier and more worthwhile. Hence, update your LinkedIn account and start connecting.
Getting a raise/ promotion
If you are eyeing a role or a bigger raise this year, then you can certainly develop and refine your skillset to prove that you are the right person for that position and you should be compensated more for what you do. Go forth and prove your worth!
Now, some things just aren’t the same in the company and you’ve been feeling it for a while. This is an indicator that it might be time to leave, so better polish that CV up, start sending them out to test the market and make your big career move.
Taking care of yourself
All of the above are both small and big steps that can contribute to your career. It may be very exhausting at times, so you need to take care of yourself mentally and physically. Remember, you can’t run on an empty tank!
