People Moves: EY appoints first female partner in Saudi Arabia
Latest Career News on Prominent Female Executives across Industry:
Esraa Albuti was the first Saudi female to be promoted, among 20 new partners, by EY to its service lines and industry sectors across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, bringing the total number of partners in the MENA practice to 218.
The number of females promoted to partner in 2019 has tripled from those announced in 2018. The new MENA partners are based in EY offices in Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, joining the advisory, assurance, transaction advisory services, and tax practices.
Abdulaziz Al-Sowailim, MENA chairman and CEO, EY, said: “I am delighted to welcome such a diverse and talented group to our leadership team in the MENA region. Their range of experience across various sectors and services reflects the depth of EY offerings, while also highlighting our expertise in the different economies of the region.
“As the digital age pushes businesses to explore untapped opportunities and mitigate new risks, we will continue to ensure that our clients have access to the latest technology and solutions through our exceptional leaders and high-performing teams.”
Albuti will be joining the Saudi tax practice. Across MENA, three female nationals became the first in their respective countries to join the EY partnership.Wardah Ebrahim, an Emirati national, was promoted to partner, joining the UAE assurance practice, and Heba Wardie, an Egyptian national, was promoted to partner in the tax practice in Egypt.

EY announced that 733 people have been promoted to partner across the globe. For the fifth consecutive year, women and emerging markets represent nearly a third of this year’s new partner class, at 30% and 33% respectively. Similarly, audit once again represents nearly a third of new partners, at 28%.
In FY19, EY globally was named one of the World’s Best Workplaces for the fourth consecutive year by Great Place to Work and FORTUNE, and the No. 1 professional services employer for the third consecutive year by Universum.
