The Senior Business Development Manager in the Asia Corporate Business Development Team is responsible for identifying and executing transformative and complex partnerships with partners in Asia. The three types of deals we support include:

  1. Filling capability gaps in our products and solutions

  2. Building ecosystems on our platforms

  3. Deliver transformational partnerships that expand current markets, open new ones, and pilot new business models

Activities/deals may include:

  1. Work with the Digital Natives teams across Asia to land late-stage startups in key agreed fast-growing industries and verticals onto the Microsoft technology platform driving co-innovation or platform commitment beneficial to both Microsoft and the partner. Specific focus will first be within Southeast Asia.

  2. Spot signals in Southeast Asia and Asia-wide tech market that could have global impact or implications that improve Microsoft strategy.

  3. Land global strategies locally including potential Teams ISV partnerships, AI platform enhancement, industry clouds and other imperatives applicable to the Asia market.

  4. Support Product Engineering priorities (new business models, product tests, custom deals etc.)

  5. Land other high-profile strategic partnerships in Asia aligned with company priorities.

  6. Ensure on-going governance and value delivery to Microsoft for signed partnerships.

  7. Contribute to the development and growth of the broader team as a senior business development professional.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Technical passion: Corporate business development is primarily engaged in Horizon 2 and Horizon 3 technical partnerships so an understanding and ability to communicate technical strategic insight along with engineering is required. Having a well informed opinion on technology trends, industry trends and strategy is required.

  • Business Judgement: Assess and and communicates risk levels; prioritize or reject deals based on company goals, and allocate Microsoft resources wisely.

  • Planning and Strategy: Business strategy and market development expertise with deep analytical and business modeling skills. Strong 360-degree strategic thinking is critical to success in the role.

  • Collaboration: Independently leading cross-disciplinary virtual teams and driving key business development initiatives for moderately complex deals from creation to implementation in partnership with senior Microsoft executives.

  • Influence: Ability to influence and drive results in a complex and highly ambiguous technical and business environment including ability to communicate and influence all levels from senior executives on down and all functions (including engineering, marketing, sales, services, finance and legal).

  • Key interpersonal traits: Motivation, creativity, adaptability, unquestionable ethics and integrity, bias towards data-based decision making and a willingness to take calculated risks.

  • Passion for Customer and Partners: Create great end to end customer experiences including technology services that open new growth opportunities and innovations in business models and partner alliances that deliver value to the marketplace.

  • Team leadership: Able to mentor and grow the next generation of business development professionals and add positively to the culture of the team across Asia.

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • 7+ years ofB2B and/or B2C internet services in abusiness discipline which could include experience in business development, consulting, marketing, sales, partner management,

    finance, legal, or relevant product development/software engineering experience in a role that included external-facing engagement with customers/partners.

  • Bachelor’s in business or related field or equivalent alternative education, skills, and/or practical experience

  • Technical capability and an ability to quickly learn an grasp technical concepts.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant experience in structuring, influencing/negotiating, and managing complex commercial deals and/or acquisitions

  • A technical background in Program Managerment, Engineeing or related field a plus

  • Background in startups and high-technology industry

  • Background in global cloud computing and realted industries

  • MBAor equivalent experience

Responsibilities

  • Partnerships Execution: Identify, develop and propose opportunities including developing the business case for a partnership (strategic rationales and economics), creatively structuring deal terms, and developing a negotiation strategy and leading negotiations. Communicate with all stakeholders at all stages of the deal process to secure buy-in and approvals. Drive deals to closure while maintaining a willingness to walk away from deals which do not meet business objectives or introduce an unacceptable risk.

  • Deal Governance: Monitor complex deal performance and track efficacy relative to expectations post-close. Maintain ongoing relationship with partners to ensure compliance and commitments are fulfilled.

  • External Partnerships:Maintain a network of relationships across the industry with partners, potential partners, acquisition targets, competitors, investors, thought leaders, etc. Leverage relationships in opportunity identification and transaction execution.

  • Industry Expertise:Be an expert in the competitive landscape including competitive and market dynamics and product and technology trends.

  • Manage Complex Deal Flow and Orchestration:Be able to manage diverse stakeholders with different objectives, prioritize BD involvement and drive accountability in other organizations where needed from deal ideation through to signed deal governance
